[edit] History

Originally formed in 1976 under the name Panic, guitarist Greg Ginn suggested that the band rehearse for hours a day. This was too much a commitment for some of the band members to keep. Later bassist Chuck Dukowski joined and the band played their first ever live show in Redondo Beach, California. Later in 1979 singer Keith Morris left the band and formed the punk rock band Circle Jerks. 20-year-old fan Henry Rollins was living in Washington D.C. around 1981, and at a show at a bar he asked if he could sing "Clocked In". They invited him to rehearsal and were very impressed with his demeanor and they asked him if he would sing lead vocals. He accepted and spent the rest of the year as a roadie learning all the Black Flag songs. With Rollins aboard Black Flag and the Minutemen toured Europe in the winter of 1981 and even meeting Punk icon Richard Hell. In 1983 they had a legal dispute over distribution and were banned from using the name "Black Flag" on any of their albums. Later in 1984 their record company went bankrupt they came back with a vengeance releasing 4 full-length albums that year and touring almost constantly. On June 27th, 1986 in Detroit, Michigan Black Flag played their last show.

[edit] Legacy

They are one of the most influential punk bands of any generation and have influenced numerous bands including My Chemical Romance and Unknown Soldiers. They have also left a strong legacy stating that Hardcore Punk could easily be considered a form of Free-Form Jazz
