Epitaph Records is the most well-known punk label. It was founded by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz in Los Angeles to put out their own records. Epitaph has progressed from a small label to the largest indie punk label in the world. However, they have stayed independent and the label's artists genereally seem happy with the level of freedom they have to create music.

[edit] History of the Label
Epitaph Records is an independent record label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. The label was originally "just a logo and a P.O. box" created in the 1980s for the purpose of selling Bad Religion records, but has since grown into one of the largest indie record labels in the world, and boasts arguably the biggest stable of artists outside of the major labels.
