Faulty Conscience was "formed" in the end of 2005, when Chestnut and Julian began jamming in Chestnut's uncle Dennis' practice space at the old New Alliance in Boston, MA. Chestnut and Julian both play guitar and drums, so they traded duties on those instruments for initial songwriting. Squallie Greenthumb joined on the bass in Spring of 2006. They practiced and wrote songs as a 3 piece, even came up with a name and started a myspace page. Their first gig was booked on December 2, 2006 at Matty & Hutch's Basement in Jamaica Plain, MA.
By this time, they had tried picking up Pat Forgotten on the drums, but due to scheduling conflicts, this didn't work out. So, two and a half weeks before their first show, they still didn't have a drummer. Their good friend Craig sat in on a practice on drums that day - he was a drummer, but hadn't played punk before - and he clicked with everyone so well that they kept him.
The first show was a rousing success, and the band just progressed from there. The next couple of shows were in basements and kitchens, with the graduation up to a hall show at the Cambridge Mass Elks Lodge on March 24, 2007.
The next step in the rise of F.C. was a gig at the Abbey Lounge in Somerville, MA. The Abbey has become F.C.'s home away from home in the time since then. The boys had a residency in Sept, with them playing every Tuesday night and bringing in all of their own supporting bands. A couple of these shows had over 50 in attendance.
