Ink and Dagger were a Post-Hardcore band from Philadelphia. The music was heavy and very technical for the scene they were coming out of. While they produced great, influential records, they were better known for their stage show. They took on the personas of vampires, playing in dark rooms with faces painted white. They took this to the highest level at their annual Halloween shows in Philadelphia. Many popular hardcore bands from the North East cite Ink and Dagger as an influence. My Chemical Romance and Alkaline Trio obviously got cues for their style from the band, and Thursday has the line in the song "Jet Black New Year" "As the Dagger screams love is dead (it was a newspaper tragedy)" from the song "Newspaper Tragedy."

[edit] History

Ink and Dagger began playing in the mid 90's around Eastern PA. They put out some 7's on local record labels and refined their live show. Eventually they moved on to Initial Records. While the energy of the live show remained, their vampire personas slowly became a rare sight at their shows. Throughout the whole time, there were lineup changes. On Don Devore and Sean Patrick remained with the band throughout its tenure. Ink and Dagger broke up in 1999. Ink and Dagger's wider releases are still relatively easy.
