[edit] Biography
Born and raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Berman played in some local Lancaster bands including The Cursed and The Statiks. The Statiks (with members Tim Schock, Jill Fullford, and Matt Fester) debut album "Dead Ends and Decadence" was streetpunk with obvious melodic hardcore hooks and caught the ear of Greg Boil and Warren Anderson of West Chester/Philadelphia, PA streetpunk band The Boils.
Berman quit the Statiks in late summer of 2000 and moved to Washington, D.C. to attend American University and was asked to join The Boils in May of 2001. In Fall of 2002, Berman helped revamp D.C hardcore band VPR with Chris Condayan (The Suspects, Lickity Split, Spitfires United). The spring of 2003 saw Berman and The Boils re-release their second album "Pride and Persecution" on TKO Records, toured the U.S. and Japan. Berman remained with both bands through the Summer of 2003 but quit VPR in the fall of the same year while studying abroad in Berlin, Germany. Close friend John Marullo, of South Florida hardcore band Protagonist, replaced Berman in The Boils for the extent of his absence. Berman returned to the U.S. and rejoined The Boils at the begining of 2004.
Berman would stay in Washington, D.C. for a year before relocating to Brooklyn, NY. In 2005 Berman joined fello Boils bandmate Dave Sausage in the New Jersey hardcore band The Rites with Matt Wetcher (Tear It Up, Cut the Shit) and Greg Dunn (Bones Brigade). The summer of 2005 saw The Rites returning to Europe for a tour. The third Boils album "From the Bleachers" was released in the fall of 2005 but Berman would only stay with the until the begining of 2006, playing his final show with the band in Pittsburgh, PA at the Mr. Roboto II Project. Berman would then briefly join a band called the Strings with former Unseen frontman Paul Russo.
In the summer of 2006 Berman started a new full band/acoustic project with John Marullo in Brooklyn, NY called Divided Heaven (named after German short story by Christa Wolf).
